Waterstones // Evaluation

This was a short turnaround live brief that was sent around college as an opportunity to apply to design a window display for Waterstones. After enjoying working on our display for colours may vary,  me and Andy were keen to collaborate on another window display.

As we were in different loc ations over easter,  we had to divide tasks well and make use of dropbox to ensure that we had access to each others up to date files.  By working on different parts of the illustration - Andy on the animals and me on the scenery, we were able to create the large format composition really quickly. I was happy with what we had produced for the event and felt that it suited the tone and audience well. Unfortunately the client was really difficult to deal with, not responding to emails in the week before it was due to be installed. This left us in the dark with what we were designing, and we were not able to get feedback from them until just before they were due to print. This made it very difficult for us to finish the project, as we still had not received the go-ahead for our designs to be used in the window. Because of this miscommunication, we were not able to design a vinyl window display as we initially pitched.

Eventually, the posters did get printed in time although we had to cut them down ourselves last minute just before they were delivered to Waterstones. They were also installed badly and one poster was visibly curled up in the window. Despite big irritations with the process and client, I was pleased to see our display used in the window of Waterstones and to have the opportunity to have work displayed at this unusually large scale in a public place. The posters were kept up outside the shop long after the event and I think this made the whole process worth it.
